Gold Mohur of Farrukhsiyar

Farrukhsiyar was a Mughal Emperor. He was the son of Azim ush Shan and the grandson of Shah Alam Bahadur. He was born in the year 1638 AD. He succeeded to the throne of Mughal Empire after Jahandar Shah.

Farrukhsiyar owned his accession to the throne of Mughal Emperor in 1713 AD with the help of Sayyid brothers; particularly, Sayyid Hassan Ali Khan Barha, who was later chosen as the grand wazir of the Mughal Emperor.

He sat on the throne as the puppet of Sayyid brothers, when he had enmity with these two kings they imprisoned him, blinded him with needles and finally killed him.

This gold mohur minted at Dar-ul-Khilafar Shahjahanabad during the 1st year of his reign was listed for INR 50,000 to 60,000 at Todywalla Auction. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Sikka Zad Az Fazl-E-Haq Bar sim-o-Zar Bashah Bhar-O-Bar Farrukhsiyar’. And reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Sanah RY 1 Julus Maimanat Manus Zarb Dar-ul-Khilafat Shahjahanabad’
